ANADARKO, OK — Delaware Nation Cultural Preservation Department hosted Native Song & Dance Classes during October – December 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM (CST), with the class concluding on the evening of December 15, 2022, instructed by Michael Meeks II & Jimmy Reeder.

The instructors practiced and sang the same song selections to get the group familiar with the music. The class provided the history of the songs, the etiquette of the drum, and some native teachings concerning the value of the drum and its significance.

The goal was to teach the different sounds and words of the songs, beats, etc., to determine the type of song and dance that would be appropriate, i.e., round dance, traditional, inter-tribal, northern, grass.
During the classes, the Cultural Preservation staff served various meals of traditional foods.

Cultural Preservation would like to thank all those that attended and supported this class!
